Planned Outages

NOTE: For security reasons the specific area of the outage is not being provided on our website however, if you are part of a planned power interruption longer than 2 hours, you would have been notified in advance with a letter delivered to your door. Not all planned outages will be posted.

Every effort will be made to keep all interruptions as short as possible. However, unexpected circumstances may give rise to lengthier delays in the restoration of power. In case of inclement weather we will reschedule the interruption for the following work day at the same time.

Please note that electric or electronic clocks, and some appliances and heating-cooling systems may require resetting when the power supply resumes. Also, a reminder to owners of electric garage door openers, if you plan to go out, remove cars well before the scheduled time.

If you have any concerns regarding the interruption, please call the office at (905) 468-4235. We apologize for the inconvenience.

CURRENT NOTICES OF POWER INTERRUPTION

The IESO will perform a mandatory voltage reduction test on Tuesday, January 21st. A three per cent test will occur between 9:00 and 10:00 EST followed by a five per cent test between 13:00 and 14:00 EST.

These voltage reduction tests are performed every 18 months, and have been for over 20 years, for the following reasons:

  • To identify any equipment problems or other material concerns among voltage reduction test participants caused by reduced voltage; and
  • To measure the total amount of load reduction that is attainable for each exercise.

Full details on the processes around this test can be found in Market Manual 7: System Operations, Part 7.1: System Operating Procedures, Section 7.1: Voltage Reduction Test.

There are four main things you need to consider in the lead up to this test.

  1. LDCs should consider notifying their customers to see if any exclusions from this test are needed.
  2. LDCs should communicate the exclusion with the Voltage Reduction Participant – the owner / operator of the transmission equipment who will be performing the voltage reduction on January 21st.
  3. If an exclusion is necessary, the owner of the transmission equipment should submit that information to the IESO through an online outage request by 10:00 EST three business days prior to the test.
  4. Please also e-mail the details of the exclusions to ontca.dayahead@ieso.ca.

As noted in the Market Manual above, the criteria used to determine whether to approve requests for exclusion from the voltage reduction test are:

  • Safety of the employees or the public.
  • Undue injury to the environment.
  • Damage to equipment.
  • Loss of production.
