Niagara-on-the-Lake Hydro (NOTL Hydro) has an opening for a Junior Engineering Technician. This could be an excellent opportunity for a new technician looking for the wide range of responsibilities a smaller LDC has to offer.
Position Summary:
Reporting to the Engineering Supervisor, the successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the daily operations of NOTL Hydro’s Engineering and Operations departments. This position integrates engineering support with regulatory compliance reporting, inventory control, and field asset inspection.
The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing a diverse workload that includes both technical and analytical responsibilities. Strong problem-solving skills, effective communication, and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively are essential for success in this role.
Specific Duties
- Prepare equipment approval sheets for electrical distribution equipment in compliance with O.Reg. 22/04
- Assist with inventory management and purchasing
- Complete annual asset inspections
- Maintain and update standards, cost estimating systems, and technical documentation
- Assist in preparation of regulatory filings to OEB, IESO and other agencies
- Support regulatory compliance processes and audit readiness
- Coordinate data gathering and record-keeping for reporting
- Monthly regulatory reporting
- Ensure compliance with all safety and regulatory requirements
- Other duties as assigned
Education, Training and Personal Attributes:
- College Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technician or related field
- Valid Ontario G Driver’s License with clean abstract
- Experience with inventory management
- Ability to read and interpret utility construction drawings
- Experience with AutoCAD required
- Experience with GIS systems considered an asset
- Knowledge of SCADA systems considered an asset
- Understanding of OEB regulations, ESA Ontario Reg. 22/04, and related legislation
- Experience with regulatory filings
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
- Willingness to learn and develop new skills
