For the third straight year, the Niagara-on-the-Lake Communities in Bloom Committee, Niagara-on-the-Lake Hydro and the Niagara Pumphouse Arts Centre are partnering to beautify three additional hydro boxes.
The competition is open to artists who live, work or operate in the Niagara Region. Three different designs will be chosen and each will be transferred onto a vinyl wrap and applied to the appropriate box.
“Niagara-on-the-Lake is the perfect backdrop to highlight beautiful artwork,” stated Niagara-on-the-Lake’s Lord Mayor Betty Disero. “Thank you to the Niagara-on-the-Lake Communities in Bloom Committee, Niagara-on-the-Lake Hydro, Niagara Pumphouse Arts Canada, and our local, and extremely talented artists for creating such beautiful masterpieces on our hydro boxes. I look forward to seeing this year’s work.”
The 3 winners will each receive a $500 honorarium, courtesy of Niagara-on-the-Lake Hydro.
“We continue to be so impressed by the response and quality of the art, that we were eager to partner with the Niagara Pumphouse Arts Centre to offer this opportunity again,” said Timothy Curtis, President of Niagara-on-the-Lake Hydro. “It was especially gratifying to see the creativity and the desire to beautify Hydro boxes by such talented artists in our community.”
The theme of the designs may include but are not limited to artistic representations of nature, Niagara-on-the-Lake history/landmarks, etc. New this year is preference will be given to submissions that are dramatic and/or complement the performing arts.
An exhibition of all the original artworks submitted will take place at the Niagara Pumphouse Arts Centre in early October. The public will be invited to view and purchase the works.
Artists who wish to submit a design should complete their submission by August 22, 2021.
