The CHOICE is YOURS...please be an informed consumer.

Here are a few helpful tips for customers to consider when being solicited by a door-to-door energy retailer:

Door-to-door salespeople are required to give you a card that clearly identifies their name and the name of their company. They must also wear a badge with their photo and company name.

Consider shutting the door on anyone who refuses to identify themselves or claims to be a NOTL Hydro representative.

Energy retailers are required to state the price they are offering and the contract terms. They must also give you time to read all the documents provided. Before signing anything, read the small print. Make sure you clearly understand the price and the terms of the contract.

Compare the offer to the current Regulated Rate Plan (RRP) figures of 6.8 cents/kWh*for the first 600 kWh used per month and 7.9 cents/kWh* for the remaining kWh usedper month. These prices are subject to change in May and November of each year.

Your Niagara-on-the-Lake Hydro bill contains valuable information. Do not share your bill or utility account number unless you are prepared to sign a contract.

Niagara-on-the-Lake Hydro WILL NOT be on Time-of-Use (TOU) pricing until approximately Summer of 2011. Current TOU rates are available on the Independent Electricity System Operator website at www.ieso.ca.Please note that there is an automatic migration to these rates and no signatures are required as this is a government mandated measure. Please be an informed consumer should someone request a signature in relation to Smart Meters and TOU pricing as this is not required.

Carefully consider any gifts, cheques, or other promotions being offered. Make sure you understand the overall cost of the contract.

Remember, you don’t have to sign a contract with an energy retailer. The choice is up to you. Niagara-on-the-Lake Hydro delivers electricity to all customers within its service territory, regardless of whether retail contracts are in place or customers choose to remainunder the Regulated Rate Plan.
